SettingIt is 2060 and you're the second generation of people entering the dating market in a world where social distancing is the norm – after all, it is the only solution to the ubiquitous infection which started in 2020. Fortunately, the supercomputers of the Department of Marriage are here to help you find your perfect partner from the safety of your own home. During Together Forever programme, a machine learning algorithm will set up a sequence of online relationships for you, of various durations and with a diverse selection of partners. This will give your cortical implant enough data about your personality and preferences -- sometimes things that even you don't know about yourself -- to enable the system to find your Forever Match. They will be the first and only person outside of your immediate family that you will get to ever meet in the flesh – more than that, they will become your permanent life companion. With a 99.5% success rate, Together Forever programme is your best and only chance at true marital bliss.
Ever so slightly awkward romance with a dash of black comedy. We took inspiration from real life and made Hang the DJ even more dystopian by having it take place during social isolation! Read more about the setting. |
PlaystyleThe intended tone of the game is mildly absurdist relationship drama. It is a story about attempting to have romantic relationships with a variety of people, some better suited to you than others, about growing as a person and looking for true love, whatever that means. It is not intended to be “misery porn”, though there may be some difficult themes in the character backstories.
Playing on romance is the main theme of the larp, with personal growth and self-discovery being a secondary theme. Don't worry if you have the common concern "what if no-one will want to play romance with me?" : the larp design ensures everyone will get the experience they want. Both the setting and the design of the larp are queer-friendly -- while enforced monogamy is a theme of the larp, heteronormativity definitely isn't! Read more about the playstyle and safety. |

Schedule
This applies to the regular version of "Together Forever" and to "Creatures of the Night". You can read about the schedule of the longer variant, "...And Ever", on its dedicated page.
Each run of the larp will happen on Saturday and Sunday during daytime hours for players based in European and East Coast timezones. Saturday 1800-2200 (UK time) Workshops, play 2200-2300 Optional play for people who want to stay up later ;) Sunday 1300-1600 Play 1600-1700 Break 1700-2100 Play 2100- Debrief + after-party Note: this schedule doesn't mean we want you stuck in front of your computer for hours on end that weekend! While there will be a few scheduled group events (around 3h total) when we would like you to be present on video chat, it is always fine to take breaks, and we actively encourage you to try out other forms of communication as well: e.g. talking with your partner on voice chat while making lunch, scrolling through and commenting on our "Facebook" while drinking tea, or texting your sibling as you're taking a walk. On the other hand, the breaks aren't enforced, meaning that if you want, you could stay in character from the start of the larp (around 1900 on Saturday) until the end (2100 on Sunday). |
